Arizona Alumni Magazine

This issue of the Arizona Alumni Magazine focuses on neuroscience and the mind. The illustrations I created address a featured story on the Higgins Lab, where insect brains and visual systems are studied to build better robots.

The cover illustration features the sphinx moth, Manduca sexta, with its brain structure overlaid in blue. An illustration of a dragonfly with its visual field accompanies the article inside. Both of these insects are considered model organisms for neurobiological study.

Graphite and digital media, 2015.

The brain and visual system were selectively coated with Gloss UV, and the rest was coated with an aqueous "Soft Touch" finish.

Fifteen-second timelapse of me making the illustration, from pencil to completion.
